A South Oak Cliff football player was arrested Saturday night for accidentally shooting a teammate.
According to the affidavit obtained by WFAA, the two were attending a post-game celebration of the Golden Bears’ third state championship title win in a Dallas home when 18-year-old Xavier Mayfield allegedly fired an accidental gunshot from a rifle hitting the victim in the neck.
The victim, another member of the SOC football team, was rushed to a local hospital. His condition and identity has not been publicly released.
The suspect was arrested at the scene and charged with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to police.
Dallas ISD has not commented on the incident.
