The Dallas Wings practice facility opening date has been delayed, The Dallas Morning News reported Thursday.
This announcement comes four months after the celebratory ground breaking occurred at Joey Georgusis Park in West Oak Cliff. At the event, Dallas City Manager Kimberly Tolbert said it was her commitment that Dallas would deliver the practice facility by spring 2026.
Prior to the Oak Cliff groundbreaking in September, the Dallas City Council approved a contract extension for the facility to be completed by fall 2026.
Wings CEO Greg Bibb told The News this week that the training facility project construction has not started and now projected for a spring 2027 opening.
The practice facility is yet another extension for the construction of Wings’ facilities in Dallas.
Since April 2024, the Wings have been contractually obligated for a move from Arlington to Dallas. The team was originally supposed to move into the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center’s Dallas Memorial Auditorium by the 2026 season.
Additionally, the practice facility was going to be part of or adjacent to the arena, but was moved following the City’s successful bid to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup’s International Broadcast Center.
In May, the city of Dallas announced that the Memorial Auditorium would not be ready to host WNBA games until 2027. A month later, the city council voted to move the practice facility to Oak Cliff which is now also delayed for completion in 2027.
According to The News, the City of Dallas and the Wings have been negotiating parameters since October for the Wings to take over the project’s development to expedient the completion of the practice facility.
