The award-winning Verdigris Ensemble, a vocal arts organization founded by Oak Cliff neighbor Sam Brukhman, has two upcoming productions to close out the RE:IMAGINE 25/26 season.
First, from March 13-15, “an immersive, genre-defying reimagining” of the American West will place the audience within the story of A Western directed by Kevin Moriarty. Inspired by the film High Noon, the production will feature the music of Michael Gordan as conceived and conducted by Brukhman.
The visual design by Courtney Ware will create an “immersive theatrical experience” for the audience over the typical concert format.
Performances of A Western will run in Hamon Hall at the AT&T Performing Arts Center and are recommended for ages 12 and up. Tickets start at $55.
The next production, The Velveteen Rabbit, will take place May 15-17 at Dallas Children’s Theater. Tickets start at $25, and the production is recommended for families and audiences ages 5 and up.
Based on the book by Margery Williams, this retelling of the story is also conceived and conducted by Brukhman and directed by Emily Ernst. The performance will transform “the choir into the emotional world” that explores the meaning of belonging, love and what it means to become “real,” according to a press release.
“These productions embody our season to reimagine classic stories,” Brukhman said. “From exploring the myths of the West to revisiting a timeless tale of love and transformation, we invite audiences to see and hear stories in ways they’ve never imagined.”
