On Friday, Aug. 7, at approximately 6:50 a.m., the Dallas Police Department received a 911 call regarding a family violence disturbance at an apartment complex in the 8500 block of Park Lane.

The caller reported that 37-year-old Isidoro Melo-Munoz was armed with a knife and assaulting a woman with whom he had been in a relationship.

Dallas police Sgt. John Arnold was the first officer to arrive at the location. According to the Dallas Police Department Beat website, Arnold entered the apartment complex and, as he approached, observed Melo-Munoz run toward the victim and begin assaulting her.

Arnold gave Melo-Munoz repeated verbal commands, but he did not comply and stabbed the victim multiple times. Melo-Munoz then ran from the area while still armed with the knife.

Arnold fired one round toward Melo-Munoz as he fled the area. Melo-Munoz continued running and escaped from the immediate area.

Dallas Fire-Rescue transported the victim to a local hospital, where she underwent surgery and was later listed in stable condition.

Investigators recovered three knives from the scene. Following the officer-involved shooting, Dallas police deployed additional resources, including the Drone Unit and Fugitive Unit, to help locate Melo-Munoz.

On Saturday, Aug. 8, Melo-Munoz entered a convenience store in the 6700 block of Abrams Road, where he was located and taken into custody.

Melo-Munoz was booked into the Dallas County Jail on an aggravated assault — family violence with a deadly weapon warrant. He was also booked on a warrant for burglary with intent to commit assault stemming from a separate incident involving the same victim on Aug. 5.

The officer-involved shooting is being investigated by the Dallas Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit. The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office was notified and responded to the scene Aug. 7 and will conduct an independent investigation. The Office of Community Police Oversight also responded to the scene.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
