Trinity Park Conservancy has announced a $25 million gift from The Perot Foundation to support the construction of Harold Simmons Park.
Harold Simmons Park is a planned 250-acre park that will create public green space along the Trinity River. The park’s groundbreaking took place in 2025 and has an expected grand opening for the first phase, 12 acres of the West Overlook, in late 2028.
The West Overlook is 22 acres in total and is estimated to cost a total of $341 million, with $200 million already raised for the project. The utilities and infrastructure for the West Overlook are nearing completion, according to a press release.
“Dallas has always grown because people were willing to see opportunity before it was obvious.
My family and I believed early on that connecting across the Trinity River would strengthen
Dallas, bring people together, and support long-term growth,” said Carolyn Rathjen, executive director of The Perot Foundation in a press release. “Harold Simmons Park represents the next step in bringing our city closer together. We hope this gift inspires others to join us in bringing this vision to life.”
