An armed man shot himself with a rifle near an Oak Cliff-area courthouse Wednesday after Dallas police officers approached and fired a shot at him, police said.
Police used Flock cameras to locate the man, who police are not naming at this time, on felony warrants for narcotics and probation violations in the 400 block of South R.L. Thornton Freeway near the Cleophas R. Steele Jr. Courthouse, a police official said.
When officers approached the man, he pointed a rifle toward them, and one officer opened fire, police said.
The suspect remained armed after officers gave repeated verbal commands, which the suspect did not follow, police said.
The man then fired his gun at himself and sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said. His condition is unknown. No officers were injured.
This is an ongoing story and will be updated as more information comes out.
