Bath House Cultural Center is getting a new roof.

Well, the Bath House and the South Dallas Cultural Center. Both are subject to a design-build construction contract with Chamberlin Dallas, LLC, authorized by Dallas City Council earlier this month. The contract covers design and pre-construction services, plus architectural and engineering needs for the roof replacement and water infiltration mitigation design and construction, according to the City’s website.

“The project scope of work for roof replacement and water infiltration mitigation for both projects is similar in nature as both primary roof areas are flat roof systems that have met their useful life expectancy,” reads the City’s website. “The (Bath House Cultural Center) roof consists of a mineral-surfaced cap sheet over a multi-ply bituminous built-up membrane that is estimated to be over 30 years old and exhibits signs of advanced deterioration. The roof drain assemblies, condensate drain lines, conduit and supports are in poor condition.”

(Fun fact: the Bath House was the first Art Deco building made in Dallas in 1930.)

These projects are expected to cost no more than $396,576 and will be paid for through 2024 bond funding. Chamberlin Dallas, LLC was determined to be the most qualified out of the firms that submitted for the job. Design is supposed to take place between November and April, while construction is scheduled to begin in June and take a year to complete.
