Manners, as defined by Merriam-Webster, are “rules of conduct as shown in the prevalent customs.” In everyday terms, the word encompasses guidelines for gracefully navigating the likes of formal meals, social events, and the all-important thank-you note. These categories, and more, make up the curriculum of the Modern Manners course for kids, taking place this month at Stanley Korshak in the Crescent Court.

Leading the class will be Chuck Steelman, who is well-known in Dallas for his fashion and retail savvy, as well as admirably executed events. Steelman’s 16-year tenure with the Neiman Marcus Group included leadership in public relations and special events, as well as founding and leading the luxury retailer’s V.I.P. Private Client Relations division. He is now Chief Customer and Experience Officer at Stanley Korshak, a name equally synonymous with high style.

“Teaching etiquette inspires me because it goes beyond rules,” says Steelman, who designed the Modern Manners curriculum and hopes to publish a book on the subject as well. “It’s about building confidence, character, and respect in my students.”

The four-week course is available for $425 per child (not including some supplies or graduation breakfast) and is open to both boys and girls. Taking place on consecutive Saturdays at 10 a.m., beginning January 24, each session will focus on different subjects and social situations. Examples include Table Settings, Going Places (Theatre, Church, Restaurants), and The Art of Good Grooming. Classes will take place in the private events room at Stanley Korshak, and a special graduation breakfast will be held at the Crescent Club on March 7.

A maximum of 18 students will be accepted for the January session, with an additional Modern Manners course planned for later this year. For more information and enrollment details, contact Chuck Steelman via email at chucksteelman@gmail.com.
