A robbery near Old East Dallas led to the death of a pedestrian on Thursday, April 16.

Police were called to a robbery-in-progress before 5:30 p.m. near North Collett Avenue and Live Oak Street, according to The Dallas Morning News. The suspect allegedly carjacked a passing driver but didn’t get far before colliding with another motorist, the momentum of which killed a pedestrian in the process in the 1200 block of North Collett Avenue.

Tyrell Jones, 25, is accused of committing this crime, and the deceased person has been identified as Jose Avila, according to Fox 4. Jones had allegedly crashed into the other vehicle while it was stopped at a stop sign, which ended up moving both of them through the intersection and onto a sidewalk and pinning Avila between the vehicles and a tree. Jones, Avila and the driver of the second vehicle were all taken to the hospital. Avila died at the hospital.

Jones — who witnesses described as appearing to be intoxicated at the time, according to the arrest affidavit via Fox 4 — was arrested and is facing murder and robbery charges. His bond hasn’t been set yet.
