Natalie Armstrong’s mom, Megan Bernhardt, is worried sick. Her 13-year-old daughter has been missing since Wednesday night, and she’s desperate to find her.
Bernhardt and Armstrong live together in an apartment near the Lake Highlands DART Station, which is where the girl was last seen according to Dallas police. They are asking for help finding the girl, especially since she has autism and is considered an “endangered person” who “may be in need of assistance.”
“She’s on the spectrum but high functioning,” Bernhardt told WFAA-TV, and she worries that her daughter could put herself in danger without realizing it. “She was feeling anxious” about school evaluations scheduled for Thursday morning “and just ended up taking off from home. I wasn’t able to catch her in time and stop her.”
Bernhardt says she has previously boarded the DART train, which is a short walk from their home on Whistle Stop Place at the Lake Highlands Town Center near Skillman and Walnut Hill, but she has never stayed gone for this long.
“She doesn’t always have those same sort of fears or concerns in making those choices,” she said, expressing worry that her daughter might voluntarily get into a vehicle with a stranger.
Bernhardt has begun working with Alfonso Solis, a volunteer tracker with Send Me DFW. Solis’ experience tells him spreading the word and sharing Armstrong’s photo could make a difference in finding her.
“The best thing to do is look outside your window and see if you see her,” he said. “If I can get 50,000 people to just look outside their window and see if they see a little girl by herself, it could be her. If it is, don’t approach her. Call the police. Let us know. We’ll do the rest,” Solis urged.
Armstrong is 5-foot-2 and 135 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes. She was last seen wearing a dark gray hoodie, black tee, baggy blue jeans and white Converse high tops. Tips may be shared with Dallas police at 911 or 214-671-4268, case number 155505-2026.
