“Bloom Where You’re Planted” by Mary Grace Eubank

This weekend brings a unique opportunity to tour over two dozen artists’ studios in and around our Preston Hollow neighborhood. The 21st Annual North Dallas Artist Studio Tour takes place Saturday, April 25 and Sunday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. This year’s tour will highlight the work of 25 local artists within 20 private studios across myriad styles and mediums.

One featured artist may already be familiar to Advocate readers. Mary Grace Eubank, upon whom we bestowed the title of “fierce female” a few years ago, is a Preston Hollow resident and Southern Methodist University alumna. She is beloved by generations through her award-winning children’s book illustrations–including that famous purple dinosaur, Barney. Eubank is also a prolific painter, with plans to present 26 new works created especially for this year’s tour.

“In my art, I like to explore themes of resilience, survival, hope, and the value of carrying on during the challenges we all face,” she says. “As the studio tour approaches, I am most looking forward to meeting my Preston Hollow neighbors and getting to know other artists whose work I respect.”

A few additional local artists to be featured include Polly Gessell (etched glass), Lori Cusick (oil painting), Gary Eisenstat (blown glass), Susan Mollett (jewelry), and Alyce Glazer Levy (ceramics). The tour is free to attend, and all studios are located in between Northwest Highway and LBJ Freeway, and from Webb Chapel Road to Central Expressway. For more information visit northdallasart.com.
