Alexan Lower Greenville, an apartment and townhome complex off of Belmont and Greenville Avenue, has a deep history tying it back to The Hockaday School in Preston Hollow.
According to The Hockaday School, shortly after founding a Junior College, Ela Hockaday founded The Music Institute, located at what is now the Alexan.
Soon, the institute grew into something more, evolving into Hockaday’s second campus.
Although J. Erick Jonsson and Karl Hoblitzelle spearheaded a campus relocation following Ms. Hockaday’s death, the Alexan still serves as a key part of Hockaday’s history.
Hockaday’s insignia, featuring a unicorn head and the motto Virtus Scientia, adorns the Alexan’s building signage, honoring the site’s past significance.
While no longer an educational institution, the Alexan still dedicates itself to service, offering luxurious accommodations for residents and providing access to the bustling cultural hub that is Lower Greenville.
