Looking for a way to keep your children reading this summer? Vector Brewing is offering a summer reading program that encourages young readers while rewarding them with a free meal.
To participate, students simply need to read books and complete a Vector Brewing Read Up Club Card to earn a free pizza or pasta. Students in kindergarten through third grade must read five books, while students in fourth through 12th grade must read one chapter book.
Students can pick up a Read Up Club Card at the cashier, or parents can send Vector Brewing a message to receive a digital copy. To redeem the free pizza or pasta, students must bring their completed card to the counter when ordering. The offer is limited to one free pizza or pasta per student each week.
The program will run until Richardson ISD returns to school for the fall semester.
“This was really our way of just encouraging kids to read something while school’s out,” Veronica Bradley, co-owner of Vector Brewing, said.
Children are welcome to borrow books from Vector Brewing’s collection to read at home or bring their own books. The brewery is also accepting book donations for both children and adults.
Students also don’t have to worry about being quizzed on what they read. The program operates on the honor system.
“If a few pizzas and bowls of pasta can introduce a handful of children to some stories and help encourage them to read, that’s a huge win,” Bradley said.
Whether students pick up a favorite chapter book or discover a new story, Vector Brewing hopes the program makes reading a rewarding part of summer break.
