For many East Dallas residents, the Lakewood Country Club fireworks show has served as the grand finale to Fourth of July celebrations for more than 15 years. This year, however, the annual tradition will not take place as the club undergoes a major golf course renovation.

The LCC golf course is experiencing a $45 million rebuild that is expected to be completed this fall. Construction has transformed much of the course into a work site, making it impossible to safely host the annual Independence Day display, according to the club’s staff.

Instead of gathering to watch fireworks over the Lakewood Country Club golf course, residents can enjoy other festivities in the city. Klyde Warren Park is hosting an Independence Day celebration at 7 p.m., and visitors can view fireworks around 9:20 p.m. In addition, Fair Park will host the FIFA Fan Festival and fireworks on Saturday evening.

While this year’s celebration will look different, the pause is expected to be temporary. Once the renovation is complete, the club’s signature fireworks display is supposed to return, according to LCC staff.
