Former Dallas ISD superintendent Michael Hinojosa has launched his campaign for Dallas mayor.
Hinojosa, 70, was born in Mexico and raised in Oak Cliff. The Sunset High School alumnus began his career in education in 1979, working as a teacher and coach at W.H. Adamson High School.
He went on to serve as a Dallas ISD superintendent twice, from 2005 to 2011 and 2015 to 2022. After stepping down in 2022, he started the education consulting business Together Network for Transformation to help public school districts.
Additionally, he was the superintendent in Spring, Texas, and led the public school district in Cobb County, Georgia.
Hinojosa’s announcement makes him the first candidate in the race to replace Mayor Eric Johnson, who will finish his final term in 2027.
