Crews were filming a mayo commercial on Viewside Drive Tuesday.

Film crews were busy on upper Viewside Drive Tuesday morning creating a mayonnaise commercial for television. Although the spot is likely to run for just a minute or two, the operation involved multiple box trucks, dozens of crew members and several tents full of equipment.

A young production assistant answered a few of my questions in between shouts of “rolling!” and requests for me to stay (the heck) out of her shot. The crew filmed part of the day inside one of the homes on Viewside and part of the day outside on the tree-lined street.

The commercial isn’t the first recently filmed in this peaceful corner of Lake Highlands, Texas. Location scouts seem to return when they need idyllic scenes and attractive neighborhoods. The DFW Film Commission is highly successful in recruiting filmmakers, television producers and, yes, creators of commercials.

“Texas — especially Arlington and Fort Worth — are really hopping these days with the popularity of Taylor Sheridan,” the young production assistant told me. “There are crews seemingly everywhere.”

A few neighbors came out to watch the hoopla with their families, but filming a commercial isn’t as thrilling as it might sound. Most stayed out on the sidewalk for just a few minutes before shuffling back inside.

Catering was set up in a backyard nearby.
