Beginning July 16, Art on Main will open The Mundane, Uneventful, & Ordinary Life of Miss Jones, a solo exhibition by Dakari Butler

The Mundane, Uneventful, & Ordinary Life of Miss Jones is an immersive experience and invites viewers to interact with the art including opening drawers and exploring Miss Jones’ personal objects. Miss Jones is described as a “a sentient bowling pin whose life revolves around the familiar routines that shape our own daily existence,” according to a press release from the gallery.

Butler is a Dallas-based visual artist who received a bachelor’s of fine arts with a concentration in drawing and painting, and a minor in art history from the University of North Texas. She is also a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.

“My work invites the viewer to do more than just view; they are no longer a viewer but a participator, open to manipulate the work with their own hands,” Butler said in an artist statement. “I use textiles manipulation, polyurethane foam, kitschy and everyday objects to create an experience that utilizes both actual texture and sound.”

The opening reception will take place Saturday, July 18 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The exhibition will run through Aug. 1, with a closing reception from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public.

Butler’s art from this exhibition is available for purchase on the Art on Main website. More information can be found here.

Art on Main is located at 4428 Main St., Suite 200. The gallery hours are Thursday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and by appointment.
