The Dallas ISD Board of Trustees approved the Early Start Additional Days School Year, adding 10 instructional days before the traditional start of the 2026-27 school year.

The program affects 13 elementary schools and sixth-grade students at seven middle schools. Classes for participating students began Tuesday, July 28, ahead of the districtwide first day of school on Tuesday, Aug. 11.

The additional instructional days are designed to help students strengthen academic skills, build confidence and regain learning that may have been lost over the summer.

During the early start period, sixth-grade students receive 180 minutes of reading and math instruction, 150 minutes of enrichment and 90 minutes of group huddles or club activities each day.

The following Lake Highlands-area campuses are participating in the program:

  • Lee A. McShan Jr. Elementary School
  • Sam Tasby Middle School
