School is back in session and The Holdsworth Center, a nonprofit dedicated to building stronger leaders for Texas public schools, has an opportunity to support our Oak Cliff teachers.

For the first time, anyone can nominate a public school teacher to receive a free weekend experience at the Center’s Lake Austin campus for the Teacher Retreat. Previously, the nomination opportunity was limited to specific cities and regions.

The Holdsworth Center has recently worked with Dallas ISD, including helping educators at Jimmie T. Brashear Elementary, through the nonprofit’s two-year campus leadership program.  The Brashear educators utilized the program to develop a new approach to vocabulary for their bilingual students.

This year’s retreat, themed “This Teacher Holds Worth,” will give educators the opportunity to step away from the everyday demands of the classroom to focus on their individual well-being.

“Every corner of Texas has a teacher who changes lives, and now every Texan can help us celebrate them,” Dr. Lindsay Whorton, president of The Holdsworth Center, said in a press release. “Expanding this statewide means more educators than ever will hear a simple, powerful truth: their work holds worth. That recognition is a gift, and it starts with one name.”

The retreat will take place Oct. 16-18. Nominations are now open at teacherretreat.org.
