Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Maxie Johnson, who represents District 4, will host a community meeting Thursday, Oct. 8 to discuss Woody Branch Park.

In 2021, the Dallas City Council voted unanimously to approve the city’s acquisition of 82 acres for the Woody Branch Park. The acquisition aims to provide new park amenities for Glen Oaks as part of the Five Mile Creek Greenbelt Master Plan.

Trust for Public Land, a nonprofit that creates parks and public land across the country, collaborated with the Dallas Park and Recreation Department on the master plan to add over 23 miles of trails to connect Oak Cliff to Dallas’s existing trails and add 124 acres of public land.

Woody Branch Park is one of three park projects near Five Mile Creek. South Oak Cliff Renaissance Park opened in November 2021 and Judge Charles R. Rose Community Park opened in the summer of 2025.

The Thursday meeting will give community members the opportunity to provide input and receive updates regarding the Woody Branch Park’s progress. The meeting will be held at the District 4 Community Office located at 4478 S. Marsalis Ave. from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
