Flag Pole Hill was as busy as a fire ant pile stomped by a giant cowboy boot Saturday as Lake Highlands’ own Exchange Club hosted Oktoberfest Dallas and the one and only Pat Green. Young families, beer aficionados and everyone in between enjoyed live music, yummy food, fun games and perfect weather.
“We’ve had record sales,” said Matt Sears, 2004 graduate of Lake Highlands High and communications chair for the club. “People are having a great time, and it’s a great outing for the community. We’ve got a whole slew of vendors and sponsors who’ve joined us for the first time, so it’s been great.”
Sears said loyal Oktoberfest lovers returned to the event, which debuted in 2010, but he also noted the many young people attending for the first time.
“Lots of LHHS graduates are moving back to the neighborhood to raise their families, so it’s kind of a 2.0 version,” he said. “Others are here for the first time, and I spoke to many of them in the ticket booth. They are excited to be here with their family and learn what the dollars collected from this event will do. It’s awesome.”
Flag Pole Hill’s location, at the confluence of Lake Highlands, Lakewood, Lochwood, Park Cities, Preston Hollow, Garland and other areas, drew attendees from far and wide. Funds collected from tickets and donations will be used by the Exchange Club for college scholarships for LHHS seniors and for community grants and improvement projects.
