A blue wave hit Texas on Election Day, ending more than 30 years of Republican control in Texas.

What was expected to be a long night of election results in the Texas governor’s race ended when Republican Gov. Greg Abbott conceded to Democratic State Rep. Gina Hinojosa. Hinojosa’s victory makes her the first Latina governor of Texas.

Meanwhile, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who held his election watch party at the Westin Galleria Dallas, lost his bid for U.S. Senate to Democratic State Rep. James Talarico, a former public school teacher and seminary student.

Here’s a breakdown of the results for districts representing Preston Hollow and surrounding communities:

Texas House:

  • District 103: Democrat incumbent Rafael Anchía is the projected winner, according to the Associated Press. Anchía leads Republican challenger Melanie Medley-Thomas with 77.8% of the votes.

Texas Senate:

  • District 16: Democrat Nathan Johnson ran for Texas attorney general rather than seeking another Senate term. Johnson defeated Republican Mayes Middleton in the attorney general’s race. His departure from the Senate will leave the District 16 seat vacant, and a special election will be held to fill the remainder of his term, which was scheduled to end in 2029. District 16 covers parts of Preston Hollow, Richardson and Lake Highlands.

U.S. House:

  • District 24: Republican incumbent Beth Van Duyne won reelection against Democrat Kevin Burge, according to the Associated Press. She received 53.4% of the vote.
  • District 32: Republican Jace Yarbrough leads Democrat Dan Barrios as the race has not yet been called, with 51.5% and 48.5% of the vote, respectively, according to the Associated Press.

How did Preston Hollow precincts vote?

While statewide results showed a major shift in Texas politics, precinct-level results offer a closer look at how Preston Hollow residents voted in the Nov. 3 election, according to the Dallas County General and Joint Election Unofficial Cumulative Results.

In Texas House District 103, all four Preston Hollow precincts, located in the neighborhood’s far eastern area, favored Democratic candidate Rafael Anchía.

In the attorney general’s race, Preston Hollow precincts largely favored Republican candidate Mayes Middleton. The majority of the central Preston Hollow area voted for Middleton, while outlying areas, including those closer to U.S. 75 and Northwest Dallas, favored Democrat Nathan Johnson.

In the U.S. House District 24 race, most Preston Hollow precincts favored Republican incumbent Beth Van Duyne. These areas include Old Preston Hollow, NorthPark Center area, Bluffview, Melshire Estates, eastern Preston Hollow and parts of North Dallas.

In the U.S. House District 32 race, only one precinct in the Preston Hollow area favored Democrat Dan Barrios. That precinct includes the area around Kramer Elementary School and Cindi’s NY Deli & Restaurant, extending toward Forest Lane.
