Mauricio Martinez, manager of the Calvario Funeral Home, passed away last month at age 53.
Martinez was the manager of Calvario Funeral Home for over 30 years and previously served as both president and vice president of the Kidd Springs Neighborhood Association. He was a husband, father, godfather and mentor.
He spent hours leading Boy Scout Troop 75 as Scoutmaster, served for many years with the Dallas County Funeral Directors Association and was a member of the Advisory Board for the Dallas Institute. He also served as a deacon at Cliff Temple Baptist Church.
Outside of serving the community, Mauricio enjoyed train sets, creating YouTube videos, grilling for family gatherings and quality time with his family.
Mauricio and his wife, Blanca Rojo Martinez, were described as having built a Christ-centered home together. His greatest joy was being the father of Guillermo Aaron and Roxanna Lysette as “their biggest supporter, constant encourager, faithful provider and greatest example of what it means to love and serve God.”
Mauricio is survived by those family members along with his parents, his parents-in-law, his siblings and their spouses, his brothers- and sisters-in-law, his mentor Guadalupe Garcia, his 19 nieces and nephews, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and other extended family members.
“Mauricio possessed a rare gift for making every person feel seen, heard, and valued,” his obituary reads. “His kindness was genuine, his patience unwavering, and his joy contagious. He was a captivating storyteller who could fill any room with laughter, and his quick wit brought smiles to everyone fortunate enough to know him. He faithfully stayed connected with friends and family through his weekly phone calls, always checking in, offering encouragement, praying with those in need, and reminding them they were loved. He never met a stranger and delighted in welcoming visitors, proudly serving as their personal tour guide and making them feel at home.”
