Dallas City Council recently approved authorization of a construction services contract to install and rehabilitate water and wastewater mains in 18 spots across the city.
In East Dallas, construction is expected near the following neighborhoods, according to City documents:
- Lakewood: Shook Avenue from Auburn Avenue to West Shore Drive
- Lakewood: Wildgrove Avenue from Auburn Avenue to West Shore Drive
- Lakewood Hills: alley between Casa Loma and Clayton Avenues from Loving Avenue to west of Auburn Avenue
- Hollywood/Santa Monica: easement below Covington Lane between South Glasgow Drive and Paulus Avenue (by Woodrow Wilson High School and Santa Fe Trail)
- Mount Auburn: Alton Avenue from South Fulton Street to South Beacon Street
- Casa View: alley between Crest Ridge Drive and Andrea Lane from Shiloh Road to Motley Drive
- Old East Dallas: easement north of Live Oak Street, east of North Prairie Avenue
Construction is expected to start in January and be completed in two years. About 27,787 feet of water and wastewater mains of various diameters will be installed or rehabilitated. Being the lowest bidder, Douglas Dailey Construction, LLC was selected to carry out this work for no more than about $10.65 million, according to information on the City’s website, taken from capital improvement funds and a revenue bonds fund.
“The existing water and wastewater mains were built between 1901 and 1959,” reads the City’s website. “These mains are contributing to an increase in maintenance costs, as well as service interruptions. The installation of the proposed segments will improve the capacity of the water and wastewater systems and reduce maintenance costs.”
