On Aug. 11, the Lake Highlands Junior Women’s League completed its 13th annual School Supply Drive, collecting a total of 5,320 items.

The donations were dropped off at Lake Highlands High School and included binders, notebooks and pencils.

“We’ve been doing the supply drive since 2013,” Hannah Fierce, president of the Lake Highlands Junior Women’s League, said. “We had over 4,000 unsharpened pencils [donated].”

In addition to collecting school supplies, the drive provided an opportunity for the League to reconnect with the community before its season of events begins.

“It was a great way to help support the youth in the community,” Makenzie Danehower, public relations and marketing chair, said.

The School Supply Drive is one of several community initiatives the League participates in throughout the year.
