The Dallas City Council committees have shifted.
Just over a year after announcing the committee lineup following the last council inauguration, Mayor Eric Johnson announced Friday, Sept. 4, that two committees are dissolved, with three committees transitioning to new leadership.
Johnson wrote in the memo that the Ad Hoc Committee on Pensions “has completed its assignment” to deliver a funding plan for the Dallas Police and Fire Pension System that was approved last year. The committee was dissolved effective immediately.
Additionally, the Committee on Government Efficiency has been dissolved following the conclusion of the final meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 8, having completed the effort in “reducing bloat at City Hall,” which has been reflected in the proposed 2026-27 Fiscal Year budget.
Johnson included changes to committee appointments in the Friday memo as well.
“These changes are necessary to more effectively manage council members’ workloads and to facilitate teamwork, mutual respect, and a constructive policymaking environment,” he said in the memo.
District 8 Council member Lorie Blair will now chair the housing and homelessness committee with District 12 Council member Cara Mendelsohn as vice chair. Mendelsohn was previously chair of the public safety committee and the committee on legislative affairs.
District 2 Council member Jesse Moreno will serve as chair of the committee on legislative affairs and vice chair of the public safety committee, with District 13 Council member Gay Donnell Willis as chair.
Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Maxie Johnson, who represents District 4, will now chair the Ad Hoc Committee on Professional Sports, and District 1 Council member Chad West will now chair the Ad Hoc Committee on Judicial Nominations.
