Lyda Hill Philanthropies is donating $11.1 million to the Trinity Park Conservancy.
The gift was announced Oct. 1 and will support the total campaign goal of $341 million for the 22-acre West Overlook portion of Harold Simmons Park, the 250-acre public park along the Trinity River.
Thus far, $200 million has been raised to support the West Overlook’s first phase, which includes 12 acres set to be complete for a grand opening in late 2028.
Harold Simmons Park aligns closely with Lyda Hill Philanthropies’ focus on nature, science and community, according to a press release.
“Nature is a powerful equalizer,” said Lydia Hill in a press release. “Harold Simmons Park will give kids a chance to explore, families a place to connect, and communities a place to grow. That’s the kind of investment that keeps on giving.”
