Happy fall! District 2 is stepping into an exciting fall season of homecoming festivities, the State Fair of Texas, Friday night football, and more high-energy school spirit.

Building on a strong start to the school year, we look forward to seeing everyone at Discover Dallas ISD on Saturday, Nov. 7, at Fair Park. The districtwide showcase will highlight the specialized programs, magnets, and Legacy Schools that empower our students each day.

Representatives from all 228 district campuses will be at the Automobile Building ready to help families explore the district’s top-rated schools, compare academic programs, and receive assistance applying to specialized schools and programs. Applications open Nov. 1, and families will have a chance to apply on site during the event.

As we look toward the future of our district and 2026 bond work gets underway, Dallas ISD launched a new online dashboard for families and community members to search for their campus, review planned improvements, and track project status. I encourage everyone in District 2 to check it out and see what’s coming to your neighborhood school.

Through a new, first-of-its-kind partnership with Dallas Area Rapid Transit, the High School Student Bus Maintenance Externship Program in the automotive technician pathway now works alongside DART professionals for hands-on training in engine fundamentals, multipoint vehicle inspections, and climate-system maintenance.

By bridging classroom learning with industry experience, this initiative prepares students for high-demand, high-wage careers while helping fill critical workforce needs across our region.

Dallas ISD also rolled out daily limits on classroom screen time. Daily limits are 60 minutes for prekindergarten through second grade, 90 minutes for grades three through five, and 120 minutes for middle school, with high school varying by course type. The goal is to make sure technology enhances, rather than replaces, strong teacher-led instruction.

Recent beginning-of-year diagnostics show promising growth, with kindergarten through eighth-grade math and reading scores ticking up district-wide and notable gains among Black, Hispanic, and economically disadvantaged students. To build on this, the district is launching a comprehensive kindergarten through 12th grade writing strategy focused on early sentence building, grammar, and cross-subject writing.

Meanwhile, Dallas ISD’s Class of 2025 earned a 94.5% College, Career, and Military Readiness rate, far exceeding our 80% target and keeping us well-prepared as state standards elevate for the future.

Finally, parents and guardians, please make sure you have downloaded the Dallas ISD app for iOS and Android. It serves as the district’s central hub for direct two-way communication in your preferred language, daily cafeteria menus, real-time school updates, and more.

As always, please reach out to me if you have thoughts, ideas, questions, concerns, or just to say hello!

Best,

Sarah Weinberg
