The Senior Source has opened registration for the organization’s annual Beat the Heat program, which will have a second distribution of resources at Tyler Street Church on Saturday, July 25, from 8-10 a.m.
The program helps Dallas County older adults without reliable air conditioning stay safe during the hot summer months. Individuals can register to receive a free window air conditioning unit and box fans if they qualify, such as having no air conditioning in their homes or cannot afford needed repairs.
“Extreme heat is not just uncomfortable for older adults. It can be dangerous, especially for those living without a reliable way to cool their homes,” said Stacey Malcolmson, CEO of The Senior Source, in a press release. “Beat the Heat gives Dallas seniors immediate relief while connecting them with support and services that can help them stay safer throughout the summer.”
At the distribution, attendees will receive cooling assistance and connect with community resources on site through the Senior Expo. The expo will provide essential services, community organizations and resources to support the safety, health and independence of attendees.
The Senior Source expects to distribute a total of 650 air conditioning units and 250 box fans through this year’s program.
Additionally, this year’s program is also working with Dallas Fire-Rescue to reach out to older adults facing heat-related risks older adults are facing, allocating 100 window air conditioning units and providing install at the discretion for residents identified through emergency response or community outreach made directly through The Senior Source, according to a press release.
Tyler Street Church is located at 927 W. 10th St.
