Mexican restaurant Olōyō has made Michelin’s list of selected restaurants in its first year operating the physical location on Gaston Avenue.

The fine dining concept by pop-up, private tasting dinner host and Texas Monthly’s Top 50 Tacos honoree Molino Olōyō opened in May in Old East Dallas. The restaurant was founded by James Beard semifinalist Chef Olivia López and Jonathan Percival.

“Chef Olivia López draws inspiration from her native Colima along with a deep commitment to heirloom Mexican corn at this intimate East Dallas restaurant,” reads the Michelin Guide entry on Olōyō. (The restaurant’s name means “cob of the corn” for a reason.) “Masa is milled and prepared in-house throughout the day, forming the foundation for dishes such as wagyu brisket sope, tamales with pipián verde and seasonal seafood preparations. House-made vinegars, preserved fruits and vegetables, and carefully sourced ingredients reflect a thoughtful approach rooted in seasonality and regional Mexican traditions. A well-curated beverage program featuring agave spirits, cocktails and wines available by the glass complements the cooking.”

Olōyō recognized the news on Instagram by expressing gratitude for being recommended in the guide.

“We started this journey in 2021 delivering tamales and tortillas to your door, we could only dream of one day being mentioned in the Michelin Guide,” the post reads. “Thank you to everyone who’s walked through our doors. This couldn’t be possible without our entire team who believed in our mission by honoring our producers and telling the story behind each and every plate.”

Also in our neighborhood, Tatsu Dallas (Japanese omakase) in Deep Ellum retained its one Michelin star, and Gemma, Một Hai Ba and Ngon Vietnamese Kitchen were awarded Michelin’s Bib Gourmand for the third year in a row, according to The Dallas Morning News. Quarter Acre was also a Michelin selected restaurant this year, a repeat victory from last year.
