Oak Cliff-based nonprofit Mammogram Poster Girls recently donated over $40,000 in grant funding to support screening and diagnostic mammograms.

The funds were distributed to two organizations, with the Parkland Health Foundation receiving $17,500 and the Methodist Health System Foundation receiving $22,500.

The money will pay for the critical breast health services for underinsured and uninsured patients who are over the age of 40 and under the age of 40 if at high risk of breast cancer. Uses of the grant funds include:

  • 3D Screening mammograms for insured, underinsured, uninsured patients over the age of 40, AND under the age of 40 at high risk of breast cancer. 
  • Diagnostic mammograms; insured, underinsured, and uninsured patients over the age of 40, AND patients under the age of 40 at high risk of breast cancer. 
  • Breast ultrasound, sonogram, MRI, contrast-enhanced mammography, and other screening and diagnostic procedures for insured, underinsured and uninsured patients over the age of 40, AND patients under the age of 40 (at high risk of breast cancer). 
  • Breast biopsy procedures for insured, underinsured, and uninsured patients over the age of 40, AND patients under the age of 40 (at high risk of breast cancer). 
  • Other breast screening diagnostic procedures (including, but not limited to contrast-enhanced mammography and MRI) for insured, underinsured, and uninsured patients over the age of 40, AND patients under the age of 40 (at high risk of breast cancer). 
  • Funds may be applied to patient co-pays for breast screening and diagnostic procedures.
  • Transportation services for insured and uninsured breast cancer patients in need.
  • Genetic testing for breast cancer (high-risk patients). 
  • Breast cancer early detection education, training, screening, and diagnostic procedures not specified above. 

Mammogram Poster Girls, founded by two-time breast-cancer survivor Sheri Mathis in 2017, has helped more than 3,000 patients through the donation of over $600,000 to fund breast cancer screening and diagnostic procedures at Methodist Health System, Parkland Health, Hill Regional Hospital and Rayus Imaging.
