The Bath House Cultural Center is preparing for the end of summer with two events beginning Saturday, Aug. 15.
The first event is a poetry workshop with Alex Tha Great. A spoken-word artist, playwright and activist, Alex Tha Great will host two sessions for beginner and intermediate poets interested in fine-tuning their writing skills and authorial voice.
The beginner session will take place from 11 a.m. to noon, followed by the intermediate session from 1 to 2 p.m. Both workshops will take place in the classroom at the Bath House Cultural Center.
The workshops are limited to 15 participants and are open to adults 18 and older. The event is free to attend, but registration is required.
Also on Saturday, the Bath House Cultural Center will present “La Guitarrizma!,” an exhibition celebrating guitars, guitarists and the cultural world of stringed instruments.
The exhibition will feature paintings, sculptures and mixed-media pieces inspired by the guitar. While the guitar is the central theme, many of the works will also honor the people who bring the instrument to life.
Featured guitarists will include local musicians such as Chris Castañeda, Long Black Car and Stephen Hout.
Internationally celebrated artists including Jimi Hendrix, Lita Ford, Prince and Lead Belly will also be highlighted. Dallas native Stevie Ray Vaughan will be celebrated as well.
The exhibition’s lead artist, Jose Vargas, will be joined by other artists from across North Texas, Waco and San Antonio.
Guests are invited to attend a reception with the artists Saturday, Aug. 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. The Bnois King Band will also provide music during the reception.
“La Guitarrizma!” will remain on display through Sept. 26.
