Lake Highlands High grad Christian Rhodes scored his first two college touchdowns Saturday in SMU’s big win over the University of California at Berkeley. After the game, SMU jumped several spots in the Associated Press poll to number 19.

The Mustangs trailed 20-17 at the half, but Rhodes’ first TD on a five-yard run sent SMU surging ahead in the third quarter. His second touchdown was on a three-yard run, and the final score was 59-20.

Rhodes is a true freshman who scored 11 rushing touchdowns last year for LHHS, earned 1,159 rushing yards and averaged 7.2 yards per carry. He also had three receiving touchdowns and 30 receptions for 413 yards. He was District 7-6A Newcomer of the Year as junior.

Next week, Rhodes and SMU play at Syracuse at 11 a.m. on Halloween. Go Mustangs!
