The Exchange Club of East Dallas raised $180,000 for local public school children at its latest gala.
“What an incredible night,” reads a post from the club’s Facebook page. “Our annual gala raised nearly $200,000, making it the highest-grossing evening in our club’s history. Every dollar goes directly toward the scholarships, literacy programs and child abuse prevention initiatives we’re proud to support throughout East Dallas.”
The event was held July 24 at Lakewood Country Club and included dinner, live and silent auctions, and a raffle. Sports analyst and former NFL quarterback Terry Bradshaw was the guest of honor.
All the net proceeds from the gala are meant to “enhance educational outcomes for 7,000-plus public school children in East Dallas,” according to The Exchange Club of East Dallas’ website. To this end, the organization funds need-based college scholarships and capital improvement projects. There are also programs that give students eye exams, books, winter coats, mentoring and the chance to compete in the Dallas Junior Golf Championship while also providing certain needs and wants to schools.
The club serves Mount Auburn Elementary School/STEAM Academy, Bayles Elementary School, East Dallas (formerly Cesar Chavez) Elementary School, William Lipscomb Elementary School, Ignacio Zaragoza Elementary School, Reinhardt Elementary School, Oran M. Roberts Elementary School, Geneva Heights Elementary School, Alex Sanger Preparatory School, J.L. Long Middle School and Woodrow Wilson High School.
The club’s Facebook post also thanked everyone who made the gala a success.
