Two separate shootings have been reported in the North Dallas area.
One took place outside the Walmart and Sam’s Club near Midway Road and Interstate 635 where a Dallas ISD police officer was wounded later in the morning on Thursday, Aug. 6. One person is in custody, according to multiple news outlets. Part of the parking lot was closed off, and police were onsite conducting their investigation.
Dallas ISD confirmed that one of their employees, 39-year-old Justin Jones, was shot in the lower torso while off campus and was taken to Parkland for surgery. The officer was reportedly stopped by suspect on the highway, gave them a ride to the parking lot by Walmart and Sam’s Club, and then the suspect shot the Jones as they exited the vehicle.
FOX 4 reported that Jones is assigned to W.T. White High School and is a 16-year veteran of the department.
“We just ask the community to please pray for our officer and his family,” Dallas ISD Police Chief Albert Martinez said during a press conference.
Earlier in the morning, the other shooting took place in Melshire Estates. Police were called out to respond to a carjacking in southern Dallas in 3500 block of Sunnyvale Street, and a chase to Williamstown Road ensued as police tried to stop the vehicle, according to multiple outlets. When the suspect stopped, a police officer discharged their weapon in the process. No injuries were reported, and a suspect is in custody. The body camera footage is expected to be released.
