A group has formed to prevent the Granada Theater from closing.
Last month, the owners announced on social media that the Lower Greenville landmark would close and is expected to be succeeded by a concept called Bathhouse. Shows and events at Granada will be hosted through April 17, and Sundown at Granada’s last day of service was Nov. 1, though private events will continue through the end of the year, according to the statement.
Known as “Save the Granada Theater! Dallas, Texas” on Facebook, this coalition is planning a meeting at 7 p.m. on Veterans Day (Wednesday, Nov. 11) at Halcyon in Lower Greenville to review “new information regarding the venue and brainstorm new ideas in order to ensure the Granada Theater remains a cultural performance center.”
One Facebook user on the group page pointed to a Dallas Morning News article that states the theater and restaurant haven’t been sold yet and advocated for getting an alternate buyer. Similarly, an email to the Advocate said locals are trying to find private investors, grants and pursue a nonprofit ownership of the theater, plus secure historical landmark designation.
